In QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Enhanced, users can submit payroll Form 940 electronically using the application. It’s a quick and simple approach to stay in compliance with the IRS. These are the steps you must take to do the same:

  • Enroll and Set up your Federal Tax 940 in E-Payment Mode

 

Step 1: Enroll Yourself in IRS Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS)

There are two different courses of action that could be taken. What you must do depends on whether your company was founded after 2011 or before 2011.

For the Enterprises that enrolled after 2011:- Business owners only need to register their business with EFTPS once. If you’re unsure whether your company is registered or not, call the IRS at 1.800.555.4477.

For the Enterprises that enrolled before 2011:- To enroll, go to EFTPS.gov and select the Enrollment tab. Complete the enrollment process by following the onscreen instructions. Within 7 to 10 business days, you will receive your PIN and enrollment number in the mail. Following are the procedures to take once you’ve received your 4-digit EFTPS PIN.

  • Go to the website EFTPS.gov.
  • Afterwards, choose the Login option from the drop-down menu.
  • Input the appropriate information (EIN, EFTPS PIN, bank account number, or the last eight digits of your enrolment number).
  • Fill in the required information (EIN, EFTPS PIN, bank account number, or the last eight digits of your enrolment number) and continue with the password generation process.

Step 2: Schedule and set-up your tax payment for e-payment

  • To initiate the process, move to the Employees menu and click Payroll Taxes & Liabilities. Further, choose the Edit Payment Due Dates/Methods. 
  • Afterwards, tap on the Scheduled Payments and click Federal 940. 
  • You are required to choose your payment method as E-pay in the Edit Payment Schedule window.
  • Select how often you want to pay your taxes.
  • Choose an account type from the drop-down menu under E-pay accounts. Also, double-check that your bank account information is correct.
