Chelsea close in on £55m Raphinha deal that won’t stop Raheem Sterling move

Chelsea are on the brink of clinching a move for Raphinha after agreeing a £55million deal with Leeds United, and all that is left to agree is personal terms, which shouldn’t be a problem

Chelsea are closing in on a £55m deal for Leeds United ace Raphinha.

The Premier League giants contacted Leeds on Tuesday and were told what it would take to lure the Brazilian international to Elland Road. And Thomas Tuchel’s men are prepared to meet the asking price.

Raphinha had been holding out for a move to Barcelona. But the Spanish giants failed to make a move due to their ongoing financial problems – leaving the door open for Chelsea to steal a march on them, as well as Premier League rivals Arsenal.

The 25-year-old has made it clear to Elland Road bosses he wants to join a bigger club that can offer him Champions League football and a better chance of winning trophies. He also knows he can double his wages at Stamford Bridge.

It is understood Chelsea’s decision to sign Raphinha will not stop them from attempting to land England and Manchester City ace Raheem Sterling as well.

Raphinha joined Leeds from Rennes in 2020 for £17m and has been a revelation for the Yorkshire club. He was instrumental in helping them avoid relegation from the top flight last season – but remained reluctant to commit himself to a new and improved deal.

Losing one of their most influential stars will be a huge blow to Leeds fans, who saw cult hero Kalvin Phillips join City in a £50m deal last weekend.

Leeds are now poised to have generated more than £100m from sales, but it remains to be seen how much of it will be given to boss Jesse Marsch for him to sign top class replacements.

Barcelona ‘agree to meet Leeds’ £60m demands for Raphinha’ despite Chelsea striking deal

Chelsea looks set to miss out on the signing of Premier League star Raphinha after Barcelona reportedly agreed to pay Leeds’ £60million asking price for the Brazilian winger

Barcelona have reportedly agreed to meet Leeds’ £60million asking price for Raphinha, putting a deal with Chelsea in serious doubt.

Raphinha is a man in demand this transfer window, with Chelsea, Barcelona and Arsenal all coveting the Brazilian star. The Gunners had been in pole position to secure the winger’s signature until their London rivals swooped in and agreed a deal with the Whites.
Chelsea struck an agreement with Leeds earlier this week and had hoped to fend off late interest from Barcelona for the 25-year-old. But those plans have seemingly been left in tatters following reports that the Catalan club have agreed to meet the £60million asking price for the star.

That is according to 90min .com, who report that Raphinha’s agent Deco has been in conversation with Barcelona in an attempt to get them to increase their bid for the winger to £60million.

With that reportedly now done and a payment plan agreed which allows them to finance the deal over a number of years, Barcelona are now leading the race for the Brazilian’s signature.

It is claimed that Raphinha’s preference is to join the La Liga giants. Indeed, Spanish outlet Sport suggest the midfielder has even told his agent to block any further contact from Chelsea amid interest from Barcelona.

That news will come as a bitter blow to the Blues, who had appeared destined to sign the Premier League ace. The west Londoners are looking to refresh their forward line this summer with a number of key personnel set to move on.

Belgian flop Romelu Lukaku has already rejoined Inter Milan on loan, less than 12 months after Chelsea forked out £100million for his services.

While former Ajax winger Hakim Ziyech looks set to join Inter’s Serie A rivals AC Milan on loan. Timo Werner has also been linked with a move to the Italian top-flight with Juventus.
