Chelsea were humiliated by bottom team Southampton at Stamford Bridge in Week 24 of the 2022/2023 Premier League, Saturday 18 February 2023. Graham Potter’s team lost 0-1.

Southampton’s only goal was scored by James Ward-Prowse in the 45+1 minute. The goal was created through a free kick execution.

Previously, Chelsea drew 0-0 in a row against Liverpool and Fulham, and 1-1 against West Ham in the Premier League, then lost 0-1 to hosts Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.


Chelsea’s spending spree in winter has not produced significant results. The Blues are still having trouble scoring goals or winning.

Playing at home, Chelsea actually appeared a little inferior in the first round. Chelsea lost possession of the ball and the number of shots. Chelsea’s goal was even conceded by James Ward-Prowse’s free kick just moments before half-time.

Trailing 0-1 at half-time, Potter made a few changes in the second half. He included Wesley Fofana, Raheem Sterling, Kai Havertz, to Mykhailo Mudryk.

Chelsea increased the intensity of their attacks. However, several opportunities through Mason Mount, Sterling, Cesar Azpilicueta, never came to fruition.


Chelsea is frustrated. Even with 12 minutes of added time, they were unable to break into the visitors’ goal. Finally, Chelsea lost 0-1.
