Alex Telles and Gabriel Jesus won’t be able to take part in the rest of the World Cup due to injuries they acquired in Brazil’s 1-0 loss to Cameroon on Friday.

Both of them had right knee injuries, and on Saturday morning, both underwent MRIs.

Brazil’s football association (CBF) declared in a statement that continuing to compete in the Qatari league was “impossible.”

Favorite Brazil will take on South Korea on Monday in the round of 16. (19:00 GMT).

According to a statement from the CBF on Saturday morning, an MRI on the right knees of players Alex Telles and Gabriel Jesus verified the severity of the injuries and the challenge of recovery in time to compete in the Fifa World Cup Qatar 2022.

Jesus, an Arsenal forward, and Telles, a Manchester United fullback on loan to Sevilla, have yet to decide whether they will stay in Qatar or go back to their respective clubs for medical care.

They are the most recent World Cup players to be hurt; Neymar’s ankle ligament damage prevented him from playing in Brazil’s final two Group G games.

Earlier in the competition, right-back Alex Sandro suffered a hip injury, and Danilo missed the victories over Switzerland and Cameroon because of an ankle issue.
