NEW YORK — Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck were wed Saturday in a late-night Las Vegas drive-through chapel, culminating a relationship that stretched over two decades in two separate romances and headlined countless tabloid covers.

Lopez announced their marriage Sunday in her newsletter for fans with the heading “We did it.” Lopez initially made their engagement public in April on the same newsletter, “On the J Lo.”

“Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient,” wrote Lopez in a message signed Jennifer Lynn Affleck.

Lopez wrote that the couple flew to Las Vegas on Saturday, stood in line for their license with four other couples and were wed just after midnight at the Little White Chapel, a chapel boasting a drive-through “tunnel of love.” Lopez said a Bluetooth speaker played their brief march down the aisle. She called it the best night of their lives.

“Stick around long enough and maybe you’ll find the best moment of your life in a drive through in Las Vegas at 12:30 in the morning in the tunnel of love drive through with your kids and the one you’ll spend forever with,” said Lopez.

News of their nuptials first spread Sunday after the Clark County clerk’s office in Nevada showed that the pair obtained a marriage license that was processed Saturday. The marriage license filing showed that Lopez plans to take the name Jennifer Affleck.

Representatives for Lopez and Affleck declined to comment.

Lopez, 52, and Affleck, 49, famously dated in the early 2000s, spawning the nickname “Bennifer,” before rekindling their romance last year. They earlier starred together in 2003’s Gigli and 2004’s Jersey Girl. Around that time, they became engaged but never wed.

Affleck married Jennifer Garner in 2005, with whom he shares three children. They divorced in 2018.

Lopez has been married three times before. She was briefly married to Ojani Noa from 1997-1998 and to Cris Judd from 2001-2003. She and singer Marc Anthony were married for a decade after wedding in 2004 and share 14-year-old twins together.

The couple, who began dating in 2002 and then split for 17 years, stood in line for a marriage license and were wed on Saturday, the bride told fans in her newsletter.

The couple, who dated and became engaged in the early 2000s before breaking up and spending 17 years apart, rekindled their relationship last year.

Lopez’s fan newsletter, the J Lo, on Sunday reported, “We did it.” The couple flew to Vegas and arrived at the chapel just before midnight to wait in line with four other couples, according to the account.

“Behind us two men held hands and held each other. In front of us, a young couple who made the three hour drive from Victorville on their daughter’s second birthday — all of us wanting the same thing — for the world to recognize us as partners and to declare our love to the world through the ancient and nearly universal symbol of marriage.”

The couple received a marriage license in Clark County, Nevada, on July 16, court records show. The license was issued to Benjamin Geza Affleck and Jennifer Lopez.

“It was the best possible wedding we could have imagined,” the pair said. “One we dreamed of long ago and one made real.”

“So with the best witnesses you could ever imagine, a dress from an old movie and a jacket from Ben’s closet, we read our own vows in the little chapel and gave one another the rings we’ll wear for the rest of our lives,” the newsletter read.

Lopez and Affleck first met on the set of “Gigli” in 2002, according to Vulture.

They began dating later that year and by November 2002 “Bennifer,” as they became known in Hollywood, were engaged.

But in 2004, Lopez announced the couple had split.

The pair would go on to date, and marry, other celebrities during the nearly two-decade separation. Lopez married singer Marc Anthony in 2004. Affleck married actor Jennifer Garner in 2005.

Both marriages eventually ended, and Lopez became engaged to former New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez in 2019 while Affleck dated actor Ana de Armas. Both of those relationships ended in 2021.

On April 8, Lopez announced she and Affleck were, once again, engaged.

“Love is a great thing,” the couple said in Sunday’s note, “maybe the best of things — and worth waiting for.”

It’s signed, “With love, Mrs. Jennifer Lynn Affleck.”

“Last night we flew to Vegas, stood in line for a license with four other couples, all making the same journey to the wedding capital of the world,” Lopez wrote. “We barely made it to the little white wedding chapel by midnight. They graciously stayed open late a few minutes, let us take pictures in a pink Cadillac convertible, evidently once used by the king himself (but if we wanted Elvis himself to show, that cost extra and he was in bed).”

Lopez wrote she wore a dress from an old movie and Affleck wore a jacket from his closet.

“We read our own vows in the little chapel and gave one another the rings we’ll wear for the rest of our lives,” she wrote. “In the end it was the best possible wedding we could have imagined.”

The Bennifer love saga is one that’s been more than 20 years in the making. The couple initially met in December 2001 on the set of the rom-com “Gigli,” where they played criminals stuck on a job together and the pair strike up real-life friendship.

By November 2002, the two were engaged, but postponed their wedding in September 2003 citing “the excessive media attention” surrounding their wedding.

They never made it down the aisle and officially called off their engagement in January 2004.
It then took another 17 years — with children and marriages — before Lopez and Affleck found their way back to one another.

Affleck proposed to Lopez again in April while she was soaking in a bubble bath.

“I was taken totally off guard and just looked in his eyes smiling and crying at the same time trying hard to get my head around the fact that after 20 years this was happening all over again, I was quite literally speechless and he said, ‘is that a yes?’ I said YES of course that’s a YES,” she wrote in her newsletter.

Lopez confirmed her and Affleck’s nuptials through a new edition of her newsletter “On the JLo” later Sunday afternoon. “We did it!” Lopez wrote, alongside a black-and-white photograph of her holding a bouquet and Affleck kissing her cheek.

“Last night we flew to Vegas, stood in line for a license with four other couples, all making the same journey to the wedding capital of the world,” Lopez shared.

The singer went on to say that they “barely made it to the Little White Wedding chapel by midnight,” and concluded her newsletter with sweet enthusiasm writing, “Stick around long enough and maybe you’ll find the best moment of your life in a drive through in Las Vegas at twelve thirty in the morning in the tunnel of love drive through, with your kids and the one you’ll spend forever with. The news of Lopez and Affleck’s engagement first broke in April. In an edition of “On the JLo,” the singer and actress shared a teary-eyed video for her fans while sporting a green diamond engagement ring. She wrote, “Saturday night while at my favorite place on earth (in a bubble bath), my beautiful love got on one knee and proposed.”

Lopez, 52, and Affleck, 49, were among the most prominent celebrity couples in the early 2000s. They made two films together. In September 2003, just days before they were set to marry, they released a joint statement postponing the wedding, citing excessive media attention. “When we found ourselves seriously contemplating hiring three separate ‘decoy brides’ at three different locations, we realized that something was awry,” the statement read. “We began to feel that the spirit of what should have been the happiest day of our lives could be compromised.
