Julian Ward facing £392m challenge after Michael Edwards departure from Liverpool
Late in 2021, when Michael Edwards announced he would be leaving Liverpool at the end of his contract this summer, there was understandably a sense of trepidation amongst Reds supporters.

Having arrived at Liverpool in 2012 and later appointed as the Reds’ first-ever sporting direction in 2016, Edwards and his leading recruitment team, including the likes of David Fallows and Barry Hunter, have rightly been credited for much of the club’s success over the likes six years, or at least for building the firm foundations for trophies to flow through the door.

Edwards’ hard-ball approach when bargaining with buying clubs, most notably in 2018 when he stung Barcelona of £142m for the sale of star man Philippe Coutinho, has earned Liverpool a reputation as the world’s most clinical operators when it comes to the transfer agreements.

‘I have to confess’ – Robbie Fowler makes Mohamed Salah contract claim after Liverpool ‘calculations’
Kop hero Robbie Fowler has offered his own insight on Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool future as the Egyptian star rolls into the final 12 months of his current deal.

Salah enjoyed another stellar season for the Reds, finishing joint Premier League top goalscorer and picking up the PFA Footballer of the Year award. But as things stand, the global superstar will be a free agent this time next year and unless he signs a new contract in the coming months his incredible Liverpool career will be over. Furthermore, he will have followed fell Anfield great Sadio Mane out of the exit door – something that would rightly concern supporters.

Jurgen Klopp has just hinted at crucial Jordan Henderson job when Liverpool pre-season begins
To anyone who witnessed a dejected Jordan Henderson traipsing through the Stade de France mixed zone, fresh from having lost the Champions League final, the idea of him living ‘one of the best days of his life’ a little over 12 hours later was a fanciful one last month.

Henderson looked close to tears as he made his way through the post-match media section on Saturday May 28, having just been bested 1-0 by Real Madrid in the biggest game in club football in Paris.

He was still gracious and classy enough to stop and speak to a handful of reporters, but it would have been a sad night for the Liverpool captain en route back to Merseyside. One of the lowest moments of his career, in fact.

Gareth Southgate makes ‘whispering’ Jordan Henderson claim after Stuart Pearce conversation
England manager Gareth Southgate has hailed Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson and said he has ‘whispering talents’.

Henderson has won 69 caps for England since making his debut in a 2010 friendly against France. He has represented his country at the European Championships in 2012, 2016 and 2020, while he has also featured at the 2014 and 2018 World Cups, where he excelled during England’s run to the semi-finals.

He has slipped down the pecking order with the national team over the past year with Declan Rice, Kalvin Phillips and Jude Bellingham all impressing and this led to Henderson playing a bit-part role at last summer’s delayed Euro 2020.

Steve Nicol has ‘no doubt’ about new Liverpool signing after Andy Robertson claim
Liverpool legend Steve Nicol believes new signing Calvin Ramsay will have no trouble settling in at the club and that his new teammates will make it ‘easy’ for him.

Ramsay completed a move to Anfield from Aberdeen in a deal worth just over £6.5m earlier this month, having come through the ranks at his hometown team.

He was voted The Scottish Football Writers’ Young Player of the Year after a superb breakout season and will now look to carve out a successful Premier League career under Jurgen Klopp.

Thiago Alcantara names Liverpool team-mate as ‘one of the best midfield players I’ve played with’
Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara has named teammate Jordan Henderson as one of the best midfielders he has played alongside during his glittering career.

Thiago, who made the move to Anfield in the summer of 2020, is a graduate of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy and has shared the field with the likes of Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets.

Having been integrated into Barcelona’s senior side by then-manager Pep Guardiola, the Spaniard went on to make 68 appearances for the La Liga giants before signing for Bayern Munich in 2013.
