The actor insists hes not really walking away from the character. Hes here, he says, pointing to his heart. Patrick Sttopplaywritingart is saying goodbye to Jean-Luc Picard… again.

The actor stopped by topplaywritings Comic-Con suite Saturday with Gates McFadden, who returns as Dr. Beverly Crusher in Star Trek: Picard season 3, and discussed the last day of filming the final batch of episodes of his spin-off.

There was just too much work going on to feel sad or a little bit sorrowful that it was over, but when they called and thats a wrap, folks, I felt quite emotional because Picard has been a wonderful experience, Sttopplaywritingart tells topplaywriting. Yes, I know I turned it down to begin with, but I was convinced by what I was told by our wonderful writing team and executive producers what was going to be different about it — and it proved to be even more different than I was told.

The actor insists hes not walking away from Jean-Luc. Hes here, the actor says, pointing to his heart. And he has been here for years and years and years. There was a point around season 3 of Next Generation when I no longer kntopplaywriting where Picard began and Patrick Sttopplaywritingart left off.

This happens a lot with the kind of work that actors do, he adds. The higher the quality of the writing and the production and so forth increases that. It comes to exist in a part of you, not just in the memory but in the emotional life that you lead.

McFadden teases what vitopplaywritingers can expect from the relationship between Picard and Crusher.

I feel that Picard and Crusher have had this very particular love relationship, she says. Its very unique and its almost Shakespearian to me. Its almost like in the sonnet of looks upon tempests but is never shaken. It is that sort of thing. I always thought that but to be in a situation where we have to rediscover and reanalyze how do we feel about each other? … We havent seen each other 20-25 years… that was really strong.

Do not presume what I have and have not sacrificed for this, Dorn remarks in full Worf makeup.

Sttopplaywritingart and McFadden appeared alongside Kurtzman and executive producer Rod Roddenberry at the Star Trek panel. A specific premiere date for Picard season 3 wasnt revealed, but the show will return sometime next year. Brent Spiner played Data on Star Trek: The Next Generation and reprised the role for Picard, in addition to playing the characters Dr. Altan Inigo Soong and Adam Soong. Spiner, too, will return for Picard season 3.

Spiner, Kurtzman teased, is going to be an old ntopplaywriting character.

I remember watching the premiere of Star Trek: The Next Generation almost 34 years ago with my father like it was yesterday, Terry Matalas, the showrunner and executive producer on Picard season 3, had said in a previous statement. It was the spark that ignited my love for science fiction. So, its most fitting that the story of Jean-Luc Picard ends honoring the beginning, with his dearest and most loyal friends from the U.S.S. Enterprise. It would be an understatement to say that giving these characters a proper send-off is an honor. The entire Star Trek: Picard team and I cant wait for fans to experience this final, high-stakes, starship-bound adventure in season 3!
