Real Madrid defeated Juventus 2-0 on Saturday night at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California with goals from Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio.

Benzema scored a solid penalty to break the stalemate in the opening half.

The Frenchman found the net in the early moments of the match but the goal was disallowed due to a clear offsides violation.

There was no need for VAR interference as the linesman was sure of Benzema’s illegal position.

Benzema opened the score in minute 19 with an ice-cold finish from the penalty spot.

The referee awarded Madrid with the penalty after Vinicius Jr. was knocked down from behind inside the box.

Real Madrid get its first preseason win

Real Madrid controlled possession as the first 45 minutes came to a close, with the only dangerous play from Juventus coming courtesy of Leonardo Bonucci, whose free kick pierced the crossbar.

Juventus midfielder Juan Cuadrado replaced Angel Di Maria to start the second half, with the Argentine failing to make an impact against his former team.

In minute 63, Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti made 11 substitutions, including Asensio taking the field in place of Federico Valverde.

Five minutes later, Jesus Vallejo found Asensio inside the box for an easy push in goal that put Madrid up by two.

Real Madrid had not won in its preseason tour around the United States, losing to FC Barcelona and tying against Club Americaprior to beating Juventus.

Real Madrid registered their first pre-season victory on their tour of the United States in their final game as they comfortably defeated Juventus at the Rose Bowl in California on Sunday.

Los Blancos went ahead through Karim Benzema’s 19th minute penalty before Marco Asensio made sure of the victory midway through the second half.

Benzema had struck the net in the first minute but had his strike chalked off for offside as Real dominated, with only Leonardo Bonucci going close for Juventus with a free which hit the crossbar.

Real had lost to rivals Barcelona and drawn with Club America during their tour prior to Sunday’s game, while it was Juve’s first defeat of the summer having beaten Guadalajara before drawing with Barça.

Carlo Ancelotti: We’re focused on Super Cup

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti turned his attention to the UEFA Super Cup following the victory, with Los Blancos set to face Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt in just over a week.

He said: “We’ve finished this first stage of the season well with a good performance, showing improvement on the previous game. The team is used to playing with the guys who have played in the past. We’re focused on the European Super Cup. We’ve trained well and we’ve got minutes in the players’ legs, it’s all gone really well.

“It’s been very positive because we haven’t picked up any injuries, aside from a small sprain for Carvajal. The team has worked really well and we’ve had no issues. It’s been a well-executed pre-season and now we have the confidence to go and win the European Super Cup.

“The fans have been unbelievable. The Decimocuarta effect remains alive and well and Real Madrid is amazing in every corner of the globe. They have a lot of love for us and it’s been beautiful to come here and feel it.”

Massimiliano Allegri: Juve can still grow

Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri admitted his side were up against the best side in Europe but looked at the positives following the defeat.

He said: “A good match that concluded a good 10-days’ work in the United States.

“We were up against the strongest team in Europe, and as long as it was possible to play, we did, trying to manage possession and not give the ball away. I am satisfied with the effort from the lads, we can still grow a lot though, and there are players who have still to return.

“Tonight there were chances for both sides and we should have managed ours with a little more patience. Now we have a couple of days’ rest and then back to work because the season is approaching.”

Real Madrid registered a dominating victory in their final preseason match with a comprehensive 2-0 triumph over Italian giants Juventus, who were outplayed for long stretches by the European champions.

Los Merengues swarmed Juventus and applied pressure from the opening minute, and they did not relent even after the entire squad was rotated in the second half. It’s a testament to the depth and culture of a Real Madrid squad that expects nothing less than to win every competition they’re part of this season beginning with the Aug. 10 UEFA Super Cup.

In front of a sellout crowd of more than 93,000 at the Rose Bowl, Real Madrid showed off a fluid, flowing attack with Karim Benzema and Vinicius Jr setting the tone with their interchanging and rapid-fire combinations. Vinicius earned a penalty on one of those lightning quick vertical attacks, and Benzema converted the spot kick. Another spectacular, clinical passing sequence led to the second goal by Marco Asensio in the second half.

It was a difficult night for Juventus, who looked disjointed and lacking ideas compared to Real Madrid. Juve star forward Dusan Vlahovic got his first minutes of the preseason, but he was isolated and didn’t impact the match. Summer signing Angel Di Maria had his quietest preseason match with the summer load looking like it had caught up to him, and starters Paul Pogba, Wojciech Szczesny, and Weston McKennie were absent due to different injuries.

Real Madrid’s next match comes on Aug. 10 in Helsinki when they face Eintracht Frankfurt for the UEFA Super Cup. Juventus will play another friendly against Atletico Madrid (Aug. 7) before opening its Serie A season against Sassuolo on Aug. 15.
