More than 75 years ago, company founder Stanley Steemer invested just over $2,000 in a home carpet cleaning business. The Jack Bates Carpet Cleaning Company soon became a nationwide professional cleaning company. In 1972,
Stanley Steemer opened its first prototype franchise in Lima, Ohio the “Stanley 1”, the first steam cleaning machine of its kind. Four years later, Stanley Steemer’s famous pickup truck took shape with the invention of the first truck-mounted double cleaning wand.
To this day, we continue to use this state-of-the-art truck-mounted system.
Stanley Steemer International was founded in 1984 with 215 franchises, 14 offices and services in 38 states but remains family-owned. Over the next 31 years, the family business expanded to include sewer, tile & grout, upholstery, hardwood, and carpet cleaning services, reaching 49 states.

The Bates family was also able to keep all manufacturing and engineering in Ohio. Our process is different from other carpet cleaners as our carpet cleaners use six spray nozzles for deep cleaning.
