This Strange Treatment Gives Him Superhuman Abilities

Morbius is the latest entry in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, but there are many more movies from Spider-Man’s world coming to the big screen thanks to both Sony’s universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe – and here’s every Spider-Man movie releasing after Morbius. The Marvel Universe is still expanding on the big screen with two separate universes now confirmed to be part of the same multiverse, with one led by superheroes and the other one focused on more villainous/antagonistic characters, and falling into the latter category is Morbius.

Directed by Daniel Espinosa, Morbius introduces viewers to Michael Morbius (Jared Leto), a scientist suffering from a rare blood disease who tries a dangerous cure that afflicts him with a form of vampirism. This strange treatment gives him superhuman abilities but none of the superstitious weaknesses associated with vampires. Morbius became one of many movies that had to be delayed multiple times, but unfortunately, all these changes ended up impacting the audience’s interest in the movie. Morbius was finally given an April 1, 2022 release date, but the first reviews haven’t been good to it.

Morbius is part of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe alongside Venom and features Michael Keaton reprising his role as Vulture from Spider-Man: Homecoming, but even with all these connections to the MCU multiverse, Morbius isn’t doing well with critics and viewers. Luckily, Morbius isn’t the last movie from the current Spider-Man universe on the big screen, and there are many more characters to meet in the near future. Here’s every Spider-Man movie releasing after Morbius.

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Part 1 & 2 – October 7, 2022/2023

The acclaimed animated movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is getting a two-part sequel titled Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will see Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) going on an adventure across the multiverse with Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld), and a new team of Spider-People, and of course, they will also face a powerful villain. Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse is scheduled for an October 7, 2022 release, with Part 2 aiming for a 2023 release.

Kraven The Hunter – January 13, 2023

Sony’s Spider-Man Universe will keep expanding with the introduction of another Spider-Man enemy: Kraven the Hunter. Directed by J.C. Chandor, Kraven the Hunter will have Aaron Taylor-Johnson playing the title character, with Christopher Abbott on board to play the (undisclosed) main villain, Alessandro Nivola also playing a villain, Russell Crowe, Fred Hechinger, and Ariana DeBose, all these also cast in undisclosed roles. Kraven the Hunter was one of the characters planned to be part of the shared universe that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was supposed to establish, and after many ups and downs, he’s finally set to make his big-screen debut on January 13, 2023.

Madame Web – TBA

One of Sony’s projects that seemed to be stuck for a while but is finally moving forward is Madame Web. The project was announced to be in development in 2019, with Sony hiring Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless as writers. In 2020, S. J. Clarkson was brought on board to develop and direct Sony’s first female-centric Marvel movie, reportedly being Madame Web, but he hasn’t been confirmed as this movie’s director yet. In February 2022, Dakota Johnson was cast in the lead role, and the following month, Sydney Sweeney was cast in an unspecified role. Madame Web doesn’t have a projected release date yet.

Spider-Women – TBA

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is getting a spinoff movie centered on three generations of female Spider-related characters, which were later revealed to be Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen, Cindy Moon/Silk, and Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman. Although there haven’t been more updates on this project, there aren’t reasons to believe it has been left aside, and more details about it might arrive once Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is released.

The Sinister Six – TBA

One project that has been rumored to be in development for years and that has gone through hell and back is The Sinister Six. The project was initially planned to be a spinoff of The Amazing Spider-Man franchise, but it was eventually canceled. Following the partnership between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures, interest in a Sinister Six movie arose again, and in 2018, Drew Goddard said his script could eventually be used for a movie, with producer Amy Pascal confirming months later that the studio intends to use it and would like to have him direct as well. With Morbius setting up the formation of the Sinister Six through the appearance of Vulture, news on the development of the movie should arrive soon.

Untitled Olivia Wilde Spider-Man Universe Movie – TBA

In August 2020, Olivia Wilde was hired to develop and direct a female-centric Marvel movie for Sony along with her writing partner Katie Silberman. The movie has reportedly been a “high priority” at the studio since 2020 and was believed to be a Spider-Woman movie, but there haven’t been any more updates on it.

Venom 3 – TBA

Venom was the movie that kicked off Sony’s Spider-Man universe, and Eddie Brock and the symbiote are coming back in a third movie. Venom was released in 2018 and even though it wasn’t well-received by critics, it was a box office hit and was welcomed with open arms by the audience, granting it a sequel. Venom: Let There Be Carnage was released in 2021 and got mixed reviews from critics, though most considered it an improvement over its predecessor (and, once more, it was a commercial hit). It’s not surprising, then, that Venom 3 was confirmed to be in development a couple of months after the release of Venom 2, though a projected release date hasn’t been revealed yet. Spider-Man 4-6 – TBA

Although Spider-Man: No Way Home seemed to be the end of Tom Holland’s time as Spider-Man, it was announced that Marvel had plans for another trilogy of Spider-Man movies starring Holland, though at that point, Sony didn’t have plans for more Spidey movies yet. Not long after, Kevin Feige confirmed that Sony and Disney were actively beginning to develop the story for the next Spider-Man movie, and given the events of No Way Home, surely the next batch of movies will have a different tone.
