Steer Clear of Sports Drinks

They’re high in calories. The calories in sports drinks aren’t worth it. Sport drinks should only be considered if you’re at a healthy weight and exercising at a high intensity for long periods of time. Even so, diluting sports drinks to avoid excessive calorie consumption is a good idea. During exercise, eating fruits and vegetables offers enough electrolytes for the body, reducing the need for high-calorie sports drinks even further.

Don’t Drink Too Much

Over-hydration, or drinking too much water, can cause hypernatremia (low blood sodium). Here is our general advice for staying hydrated but not excessively so: Drink before, during, and after any strenuous activity. Drink when you’re thirsty at other times of the day.

Keep Track Of Your Hydration Levels

Checking the color of your urine is a smart technique to make sure you’re hydrating adequately. You’re well hydrated if it’s pale yellow (think lemonade). Drink extra if it’s darker (approaching the color of apple juice). However, several drugs and supplements change the color of urine, so this test, while useful for many, may not be accurate for everyone. When we exercise in hot weather, our body temperature rises. If we’re exposed to high temperatures for an extended period of time, our bodies’ natural cooling system may begin to malfunction. Heat exhaustion — that dreadful tiredness that makes you feel like one more step could be your last – could be the outcome. It’s possible that you’ll get heat stroke.

If the humidity is high, you’re in even more difficulty since perspiration “clings” to your skin and doesn’t dissipate as quickly, raising your body temperature.

Drink plenty of water to stay cool. In fact, because fruits and vegetables are high in water, you don’t need to drink water before your workout; instead, drink 8 to 10 ounces of water every 20 minutes while exercising. Drink more after your workout — at least another 8 ounces.

Eating a piece of fruit, or even carrots or celery sticks, is another fantastic approach to rehydrate during a break in your physical activity. Fruit and vegetables will also aid in electrolyte replacement.

Be Sure To Apply Sunblock

Even if the labels advertise sweat proof and water proof claims that are hours longer, reapply every two hours. Several of these “persistent” claims are currently being investigated.

Wear Light-Colored, Lightweight Clothing
