Jabal Akhdar and Jabal Shams

People often say that Oman is mostly desert, with vast areas of desolate. The mountains of Jabal Akhdar referred to as the Green Mountain and Jabal Shams known as the sun’s mountain are both breathtaking places. Salalah

Southern Oman is a country that has a lot to provide. Its Dhofar region is the agricultural center and home to the most important Omani areas that makes the region the place it is today. The world-famous frankincense tree the Boswellia Sacra, flourishes in the Dhofar region and produces valuable resin that is worth more than the weight of gold. The resin was transported across the world in the past to be sold in royal kingdoms as far as Rome and Egypt from the ancient area of Sumharam. It is now known as one of Oman’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The region referred to as the “Land of Frankincense’ has four important areas: Khor Rori, Wadi Dawka, Wubar and Al Baleed. The culture and history of Oman have been shaped and influenced by the production and trade of Frankincense throughout the centuries. Regular flights are offered between Muscat to Salalah however, the more adventurous might consider the 1,021 km journey by road.

Al Hamra

One of the most well-preserved older towns in Oman with traditional mud brick homes, winding streets, and a historical atmosphere that has been lost to the majority of Oman. One of the main attractions within the town is the living-history museum Bait al Safah, a beautifully restored traditional home filled with ancient objects and furniture from the past to show how people were living in the past. Other places to visit close by include the Al Hoota caves, a cave system that spans many kilometers, which dates back nearly 2 million years and is very famous within the Arabian Peninsula. You can also explore Misfat al Abryeen, a pretty village in the mountains, and some Wadis close by on your Oman trip this national day.
