How Often Should Your Business Book Pest Control Services?

Cleanliness and hygiene are two things that the Singaporean authorities take very seriously. It’s why businesses in Singapore must work with pest control services if they want to avoid controversies like the recent rodent sightings at the food centre in Beauty World.

But exactly how often should you have the exterminator visit your establishment? That actually depends on several factors, some of which we’ll discuss in our guide today.

What Type of Business Do You Have?

The industry you’re operating in is perhaps the main determinant of how often you need pest control services in Singapore. For example, restaurants, cafes, and hawker centres should schedule them at least monthly since the government’s safety guidelines for food establishments have more stringent pest management standards. The same goes for healthcare centres.

On the other hand, offices could make do with more sporadic appointments if they strictly observe proper housekeeping.

Where Is The Business Located?

If you’re situated in an area that has plenty of trees and vegetation, you might need the pest control specialist to come by often for mosquito and ant issues. However, establishments in densely populated districts also require consistent inspections for critters like rodents and cockroaches

How Big is Your Property?

Large buildings and sprawling facilities should generally have more frequent visits because they have more access points and hiding spots that pests could take advantage of. They’re also more likely to have more food sources to offer.

Do You Have a History of Infestations?

Does your business or the commercial property you’re a part of have a track record with recurring pest issues? If so, then I highly recommend scheduling more routine check-ups with your pest control company. They can help monitor and mitigate the ongoing risk and address the underlying causes for it, like constant plumbing leaks or poor waste management.

The General Guidelines

The ideal pest control schedule will depend on your service provider’s advice based on the above factors, but you can use these basic recommendations to guide yourself:

  • Monthly sessions are best for businesses with strict hygiene standards. These include food businesses, hospitals, and health clinics.
  • However, you may need the service to come weekly or every other week if you have an extremely high risk of infestations or are still dealing with an ongoing pest issue.
  • Offices, retail shops, and industrial buildings can work with quarterly pest control appointments if they maintain satisfactory levels of cleanliness.

Don’t Wait for the Pest Problem to Worsen

A major mistake that many businesses make is calling their pest control service in Singapore only when the infestation becomes too severe to handle in-house—or worse, makes it to the local news. It’s best to take a more proactive approach instead, and here’s why:

  • Pests can transmit many diseases that could put your employees and customers in grave danger. When there’s a lower risk of an infestation, you won’t have to worry as much about people falling ill.
  • You’ll save more money in the long run if you invest in regular inspections. Suppose you have termites on your property. If the pest control expert finds them early, they can remove the insects before they cause any more damage that requires costly building repairs.
  • As many past news reports will teach you, pest sightings can quickly ruin a business’s reputation. Who would want to patronise your shop if it poses a hazard to their health? It’s safer to nip the issue in the bud with a check-up from the exterminator.

Take the Initiative to Be a Pest-Free Establishment

Being cautious is always a good trait to have when you want to keep pests away from your business. It doesn’t matter how clean and sanitised you think the place is. If you want to have more peace of mind, then you should work together with a pest control service in Singapore

Don’t hesitate to book a visit before it’s too late. We all need their help to make our properties and fellow Singaporeans safe from these nasty critters.
